Freshman Focus

Freshman Focus is a course that all Freshmen in the Academy will complete. The class is a curriculum designed by JHS Freshman Academy teachers that is intended to develop academic and life skills, character, and citizenship; the goal being to encourage self-evaluation and foster civic engagement. Additionally, the course will focus on developing the following skills:

  • Collaboration and Team Work
  • Public Speaking
  • Project Creation
  • Writing Skills
  • Critical Thinking Skills
  • Self-Reflection
The course is designed around several different themes. These themes are:
  • Defining Me
  • Education and Career Planning
  • Relationships and Community Involvement
  • Poverty and Financial Planning
  • Media Literacy
The ultimate goal of Freshman Focus is to provide students with a base of knowledge from which they can move forward in their academic and personal lives to achieve great things. There is a lot of emphasis on application of the skills learned in Freshman Focus to the life of the student.
